IDEA- Intellectual Disabilities engaged in Art
High quality learning opportunities for adult people with intellectual disabilities in artwork, art-crafts, soft-skills, entrepreneurial and social media skills
AIM
The project “IDeA- Intellectual Disabilities engaged in Art” aims to promote the inclusion of adult people with Intellectual Disabilities (pwID) by providing them high quality learning opportunities in artwork and art-crafts and upskilling the pathway and accessibility of their participation in society and economy by empowering both their art-skills, soft-skills and social media skills, a for art-work related social entrepreneurship promoting their art-work products.
THE IDEA BEHIND
The main target group of the project “IDeA- Intellectual Disabilities engaged in Art”, are adult people with Intellectual Disabilities (ID). About 1% of the EU population are pwID therefore it is crucial to find ways to include them in the society, education and economy and this is the main priority of our project. Although there are relatively many opportunities offered for young pwID (especially children) as soon as they become adults the scarcity of opportunities and participation in education and economy as well as the lack of employability becomes evident. Moreover there is a huge gap in the digital literacy of adult pwID. While the people with same age use social media, phones etc every day they rarely use them or have accounts on them especially as tools for promoting their art. Additionally the family and carers of pwID feel abandoned and alone to tackle the issue, and it is exactly this point that we aim to intervene with the project “IDeA”.
We aim to give hope and practical aid both to pwID and their families through artwork, soft-skills educational activities, digital media literacy which can become a life-changer for pwID involving them in a creative world which can be both engaging and inspiring as well as practically profitable through the promotion of their artwork.
The IDeA project was created by PEKAMEA (coordinator) and Challedu who had the opportunity to explore the power of Art and Entrepreneurship through the project HOPE- Empower disadvantaged people through art. All participating organizations of the project are devoted to offer high quality opportunities for adult pwID not only on learning and training on arts but also practically on bringing and promoting their art products in the market and digital market giving them the feeling of dignity and usefulness in the society and a valuable opportunity to come out of their isolation.
